10 Bible Scriptures To Help You Be Ready For Any Season
To be ready for any season can be a tall ask and overwhelming if you look at the whole picture only. Sometimes you need to zoom in and pay attention to the details. Start with the step you’re on and you’ll soon scale the whole staircase with confidence.
There is a big difference between getting ready and being ready. Getting ready happens specifically before an event and being ready means you live prepared. It’s a state of readiness.
If you look at an athlete, they don’t just intentionally prepare for their event, but they stay ready. They keep themselves fit and on point so that they can compete at any time. If we look at a profession like that of a medical doctor or a lawyer. They prepare themselves by going to college, but they stay current in their fields by knowing the latest facts and procedures. They don’t operate on outdated information.
What should you be ready for?
As believers, we need to be ready for anything and everything. If that sounds hard, don’t worry, there is a simple formula that the Apostle Paul gave us that we can apply to help us get ready and be ready.
Ephesians 6:10-17 describes a routine of putting on God’s armour so that we can be ready to face the schemes of the devil. Paul knew that all of us would encounter the enemy at some time or other in life and that when that evil day comes, we would need to stand unwavering.
But why is it so important to be ready? Why can’t I just cross the bridge when I get to it, or fly by the seat of my pants?
When we make decisions as we go along, we don’t have the advantage that we would have had if we had time to prepare. We have to use the information provided in the moment – there is no room for flexibility or time to check facts, compare strategies and to top it all, the stress and anxiety are very real.
To some, this may be a thrilling ride, but imagine if you had a do-over and this time you were well-prepared. How different would our result be? Preparation has heaps of benefits and just being ready really boosts your overall confidence. We are grounded and focused and it’s harder to pull the wool over our eyes. We deal with problems more efficiently and we easily anticipate the outcome.

King David understood this all too well. When he faced Goliath, he refused to wear the king’s armour because he said that he had not tested it. He preferred to use what he already knew. He said he had fought the bear and the lion and that God had delivered him from both of them and would do so with the Philistine. His confidence came because He was tested in trusting Him. He was prepared to face Goliath and he defeated him (1 Samuel 17).
What do I do to be ready?
We have tested armour and we need to put it on so that we get used to it long before the day arrives. Each piece of armour is vital and serves an important purpose.
Ephesians 6:10-17, NIV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

Paul used the image of a ready soldier to describe God’s armour. The first five pieces are defensive, but the last one, the Sword of the Spirit, is offensive – it’s designed to attack.
1. Belt of Truth buckled around your waist
Jesus is the truth (John 14:6). All truth starts with him. The belt helps us to distinguish between what truth is and what it isn’t. Jesus said we will know the truth and the truth will set us free (John 8:32).
2. Breastplate of Righteousness in place
We protect ourselves with the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). Interestingly, it’s a breastplate because we are told in Proverbs 4:23 to protect and guard our hearts above all else. We are righteous when we are in a right relationship with God.
3. Your Feet are fitted with the Readiness that comes from the Gospel of Peace
Our feet represent our walk with God, and the gospel of peace is the good news that the death and resurrection of Jesus brought us. Through His sacrifice, salvation came to us. When we stand firm in this revelation, we walk unhindered.
4. Shield of Faith to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one
Faith (gk. pistis) is trust, confidence, assurance and belief in God. Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). We put our hope and trust in Him, knowing He will perfect our faith. God is also a shield around us, protecting us from danger (Psalm 3:3). We use faith as a shield to fend off all sorts of attacks, including doubt, low self-esteem and quitting.
5. The Helmet of Salvation
The helmet protects our heads in battle (Psalm 140:7). Daily, we are facing a war against our minds. Our enemy understands that to win the war, he just needs to get us to believe we have already been conquered. We have to guard against negative thoughts by practising self-control (1 Thessalonians 5:8) and placing ourselves under Christ’s headship. We essentially put on the mind of Christ.
6. Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God
The Sword is an offensive weapon and it serves as a warning to the enemy. Paul likened the sword to God’s Word. It is like a two-edged or double-edged sword and it cuts through truth and falsehood. It is a discerner. The Greek word distomos consists of ‘di‘, which means two and ‘stomo’, the word mouth. So put together, it means a two-mouthed sword.
Activation of God’s Word in our lives comes through speaking. We start by reading and spending time in God’s word and when a situation arises, the Holy Spirit drops a quickened word (gk. rhema) from the recesses of your heart. That word then begins to become a revelation to you and you then speak it. That is what a two-mouthed sword is all about. First, God speaks– written or rhema word and then you speak the word.
Hebrews 4:12 says the word of God is quick, powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Mark 13:33-37, NLT
33 And since you don’t know when that time will come, be on guard! Stay alert! 34 “The coming of the Son of Man can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. When he left home, he gave each of his slaves instructions about the work they were to do, and he told the gatekeeper to watch for his return. 35 You, too, must keep watch! For you don’t know when the master of the household will return—in the evening, at midnight, before dawn, or at daybreak. 36 Don’t let him find you sleeping when he arrives without warning. 37 I say to you what I say to everyone: Watch for him!”
Luke 12:35-38, NIV
35 “Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, 36 like servants waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. 37 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. 38 It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the middle of the night or toward daybreak.

15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. Conclusion
When we put on the armour of God and take up His Sword, we will be ready for anything. Our weapons are not futile, they are powerful– mighty in God (2 Corinthians 10:4). When we wear our armour, we stand ready and stand firm in it and are founded on the rock and the devil cannot deter us. You have everything you need to be ready.
